Blur: the Indecisive Moment

1973 - 1983

When is the right moment to take a photo? What constitutes a "good" photo? Moser explores these questions in this series of photographs taken with an unsteady hand, leaving it to the viewer to decide whether the resulting blurriness is intentional.

The prevalence of radial blur in many of these images increases the feeling of instability, disorientation and unsteadiness, forcing the viewer to grapple with their preconceived notions of how clear a photograph must be in order to be accepted as valid, while the juxtaposition of small tantalizingly clear areas urges the viewer to guess at what details are missing.
